Welcome Edwin Salau

Guest Speaker

Ed Salau joined the Marine Corps in 1988 right out of high school. Salau served as a radio repairer in Okinawa, Korea, Philippines, and North Carolina. From 1993 to 1995, he recruited future Marines in Minnesota. Salau ultimately attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, and he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 2000. Following his discharge, Salau enlisted in the North Carolina Army National Guard.

From 2000 to 2002, Salau served as an Infantry Team Leader. In 2002, he received a direct commission to Second Lieutenant, and he attended Infantry Officer Basic Course at Fort Benning, GA. Lt. Salau’s unit was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from February-November 2004. On November 15, 2004, his patrol was ambushed southeast of Tikrit with small arms and rocket propelled grenades. He was seriously wounded during that fight. In 2005, Lt. Salau was medically retired due to the injuries received in combat.

Since leaving the military, Lt. Salau has assisted combat-wounded service-members through their individual transitions from military to veteran lifestyles. He has worked in non-profit organizations and government positions placing him face-to-face with warfighters who are in need of assistance. Lt. Salau currently works as a civilian employee of the Marine Corps, at Camp Lejeune, NC. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Boston University. His military awards include the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal. HSCC logo (graphic and text in line) (no line) (COLOR).png

For his 600 acres of rolling, wooded Ozarks land rich with limestone out-croppings, Developer John Q. Hammons always envisioned a golf course and country club. Twenty-two years after first entertaining this notion, Hammons enlarged the parcel to 600 acres and proceeded with his plan.

Now the Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield, Missouri is not only a lush location for golfers and health enthusiasts, but also the centerpiece of a master-planned community consisting of 39 villa lots, 360 single-family lots for private homes, and 20 acres zoned for commercial use. The John Q. Hammons Industries in-house architect, Steven Minton, AIA, drafted the concept for the community and the clubhouse. Robert Trent Jones II, a San Francisco firm renowned for its golf course designs, planned the 18-hole golf grounds.

At the heart of the course, in the stunning three-story clubhouse with wonderful combinations of limestone, wood and glass, you will recognize echoes of Frank Lloyd Wright’s work. From the spectacular beveled, stained glass entry doors to the soaring ceilings you’ll appreciate the architectural design that combines beauty with comfort. Dining, whether your choice is casual or more elaborate, is enhanced by breathtaking views from all areas, including relaxing verandahs and patios. Designed with a keen eye to style and function, the Highland Springs Clubhouse offers members 42,000 square feet of the finest facilities and services available, complete with private meeting rooms and banquet facilities for up to 300.
